The Dominican Petroleum Refinery (Refidomsa) located in Haina, San Crist\u00f3bal has significantly increased its storage capacity for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), a move aimed at enhancing energy security and stability in the Dominican Republic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a ceremony led by President Luis Abinader on Tuesday, Refidomsa inaugurated four new storage spheres, boosting its LPG reserve from 140,000 barrels to 380,000 barrels \u2013 a 171.4% increase. This expansion ensures a more consistent supply of LPG and reduces the logistical costs associated with transporting the fuel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This is a significant step forward for fuel security and energy security in the Dominican Republic,” President Abinader stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The newly refurbished spheres, each with a capacity of 60,000 barrels, were part of a nearly three-year project that required an investment of approximately $91 million. The increased storage capacity now provides enough LPG to meet the country’s demand for 41 days, up from the previous 13-14 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Abinader emphasized the strategic importance of Refidomsa to the country, noting that state-owned enterprises can be managed efficiently and effectively. While he reaffirmed his commitment to private sector development, he acknowledged the need for strategic state-owned companies to ensure national security and stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
