Following the golden road paved by stellar ball player Juan Soto, 17-year old shortstop Elian Pe\u00f1a has agreed to sign with the New York Mets for US$5 million. Soto late last year signed for US$765 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pe\u00f1a received the top bonus in the 2025 class for a Latin American prospect, as reported by Ben Badler of Baseball America. Pe\u00f1a began playing baseball when he was six years old in his native Azua province, being sent to train in Santo Domingo when he was 10 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pen\u0303a’s reported US$5 million bonus is the largest given out in Mets franchise history. The previous record was that of Francisco Alvarez who had signed for US$2.7 million in the 2018-19 signing period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Separately, the San Francisco Giants agreed to sign Josuar de Jes\u00fas Gonz\u00e1lez for a US$3 million bonus. De Jesus Gonzalez is a native of San Pedro de Macoris who also began his \u201ccareer\u201d as a child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The players will now report to the team academies to continue their preparation for the MLB teams and will first play in the Dominican Summer League or in the Rookie League in the United States. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
