The Centers for Diagnostic, Advanced Medicine, and Medical and Telemedicine Conferences (Cedimat) and the US hospital system Montefiore Einstein have signed an agreement to construct a state-of-the-art cancer center that will serve as a national and international reference point for cancer treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agreement, witnessed by Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader, is a response to the significant increase in cancer cases in the country. The most common cancers in the Dominican Republic are breast, prostate, cervical, colon, and lung.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a press release, Cedimat says the new center will provide comprehensive care to cancer patients, combining cutting-edge technology, highly qualified personnel, and a focus on equity and social responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, Montefiore\u2019s renowned oncology expertise will be instrumental in ensuring high-quality cancer care. This includes implementing robust data tracking systems and establishing a tumor board comprising specialists from both institutions to collaboratively determine the most effective and personalized treatments for patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cedimat’s existing Hemato-Oncology unit will be expanded significantly with Montefiore Einstein’s support. Moreover, Cedimat physicians will have the opportunity to specialize at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, one of the leading centers for postgraduate medical education and clinical research in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jos\u00e9 Luis Corripio, vice president of the Cedimat Board, described the construction of the new center as another contribution to the health of the Dominican people. Dr. Jorge Marte, medical director of CEDIMAT, emphasized that all cancer care and treatments will now be available at the center, making it a reference point, just as it has become for cardiovascular health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Philip O. Ozuah, CEO of Montefiore Einstein, expressed the institution’s commitment to providing cutting-edge oncology care, clinical training, and collaborative research to address the rising cancer rates in the Dominican Republic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Luis Abinader highlighted the country’s progress in the quality of its healthcare professionals but emphasized the need for continued improvement. “We need a world-class cancer care center,” he said. “This center will provide us with better diagnoses in the area of oncology, which is one of the keys to addressing the various pathologies of this disease.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Dominican Republic is a major health tourism center in Latin America and the Caribbean. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
