Spain’s King Felipe VI awarded the Commander\u2019s Cross of the Royal Order of Isabella the Catholic to Dominican singer-songwriter Juan Luis Guerra at a ceremony held at the Spanish Embassy. Attending the event were the President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, and his wife, Raquel Arbaje.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement, Spanish Ambassador Antonio P\u00e9rez-Hern\u00e1ndez praised Guerra as one of the most prominent figures of Dominican culture and one of the most internationally recognized personalities of the nation. He emphasized Guerra’s position as one of the most celebrated Latin artists of the past few decades, noting his impact extends beyond music, representing a true sociocultural phenomenon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ambassador also highlighted Guerra\u2019s solidarity and social awareness, pointing out that despite his success and fame, he has remained committed to social causes, standing out both as a great professional and a remarkable human being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, P\u00e9rez-Hern\u00e1ndez emphasized Guerra\u2019s long-standing and deep connection to Spain, where he is regarded as one of the most beloved Latin artists. Spain has always welcomed him with admiration and affection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“For all these reasons, the government and people of Spain wish to acknowledge his immense contribution to spreading the Spanish language and culture worldwide, and his efforts to unite our two nations through his music,” the statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The King\u2019s award, the prestigious Commander\u2019s Cross of the Order of Isabella the Catholic, serves as a symbol of Spain’s admiration, respect, and gratitude towards Guerra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his speech, the ambassador called Guerra \u201ca great Dominican, a great friend of Spain, and a global figure. Juan Luis belongs to everyone now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upon receiving the honor, Guerra expressed his gratitude for the recognition and thanked the attending authorities and guests. He reflected on his musical journey in Spain, recalling how warmly the Spanish public had embraced his music. He thanked Spanish artists Alejandro Sanz, Joan Manuel Serrat, and Joaqu\u00edn Sabina for their support and inspiration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The awardee dedicated the distinction to his wife, Nora, his children Paulina, Jean Gabriel, and Ana, his manager Amarilys, his band 4.40, and to his family, friends, and fans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the attendees were Foreign Minister Roberto \u00c1lvarez, Minister of Industry and Commerce V\u00edctor Bison\u00f3, and Minister of Culture Roberto Salcedo. Also present were numerous family members, friends, and notable figures from politics, business, and the cultural scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
