Purdue University welcomed President Luis Abinader and delegation to campus for meetings with university president Mung Chiang and other Purdue leaders to discuss expanding a growing partnership in semiconductors, biotechnology, and online learning last week. Purdue is backing research and education collaborations with the Dominican Republic. Chiang is an excellent partner for the Dominican aspirations to become a nearshore base for semiconductor manufacturing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chiang was born in mainland China but at an early age migrated to Hong Kong and after high school to the United States for his university studies. He would eventually be chosen dean of the College of Engineering at Purdue and under his leadership, Purdue Engineering would become the largest ever top-5 engineering college in the United States with milestones in education, research, fund-raising, physical infrastructure, online learning, industry partnership, economic development, global engagement, diversity and visibility. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting in December 2019, Chiang took a one-year leave of absence to serve as the science and technology adviser to the secretary of state Mike Pompeo on an Intergovernmental Personnel Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2021, Purdue University named Chiang as Executive Vice President for Strategic Initiatives while continuing to lead the College of Engineering. Chiang has been president of Purdue since 1 January 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
