Dominican Republic-based Arajet has just opened bookings for its first flights to the New York-New Jersey area. The airline will be flying from Santo Domingo (SDQ) to Newark International Airport (EWR) starting 16 June 2025. The flight is still subject to US government clearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An estimated two and a half million Dominicans live in the New York-New Jersey area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline says the introductory flights will be 30% off the regular fares. The airline website posts fares of US$173 for the one-way flight, and fares of US$262 round trip are being advertised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The introductory fares lower travel costs are US$127 for EWR to SDQ and US$135 for SDQ to EWR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The entry of Arajet as a competitor for the Dominican market is expected to impact the fares offered by several US airlines that already serve the market. These are JetBlue, Delta, American, United and Frontier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The same already happened with flights to Puerto Rico, now served by Arajet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arajet is committed to making flights both accessible and affordable for the Dominican community and American tourists, with a particular focus on strengthening its presence in the United States, especially in the key market of New York, according to CEO and founder V\u00edctor Pacheco. “It’s been over 30 years since a Dominican airline has flown to New York,” Pacheco said. “With this service, Arajet will make history, becoming the preferred airline for our diaspora as well as American travelers looking to spend their vacations or getaways.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The announcement was made at Gregorio Luper\u00f3n High School in Washington Heights, a community with a large Dominican population. The event was attended by Dominican-born New York Congressman Adriano Espaillat, along with Dominican consuls Jes\u00fas V\u00e1zquez and Jos\u00e9 Santana from New York and New Jersey, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

US Congressman Espaillat has worked for years to improve air connectivity for the Dominican community in New York to facilitate travel to Santo Domingo at more competitive prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
