The case, known as the &#8220;Antipulpo&#8221; case, has been ongoing for over four years, prompting the defendants&#8217; lawyers to request its dismissal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The prosecution counters that corruption cases should not be subject to statutory limitations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alex Medina, the main defendant, is accused of fraudulent contracting with a government power utility. His sister, Magalys Medina, is also accused in the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The defense argues that the prolonged duration of the case (over four years) exceeds the reasonable timeframe outlined in the Criminal Procedure Code (CPP), and thus, the charges should be dropped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wilson Camacho, the initial prosecutor, asserted that corruption cases do not have expiration dates. However, he has been replaced by Mirna Ortiz under the new Attorney General, Yeni Berenice Reynoso.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Second Collegiate Court of the National District, headed by Judge Claribel Nivar Arias, will announce its decision on the defense&#8217;s request for penalty extinction on March 17th. The court has indicated that they are aware of the complexity and magnitude of the case but have not revealed their decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The trial began in May 2023 and has been lengthy due to numerous legal resources presented by the defense.
