The Abinader administration announced it is borrowing US$190 million from the World Bank to carry out a comprehensive program to strengthen the public health system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative, a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Housing and Buildings (Mived), and the National Health Service (SNS), will focus on modernizing public medical facilities, enhancing digital health infrastructure, and providing specialized training for healthcare professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program’s launch was spearheaded by Health Minister V\u00edctor Atallah, Mived Minister Carlos Bonilla, SNS Director Mario Lama, and Alexandria Valerio, the World Bank’s representative in the country. The World Bank is the primary funder of the five-year project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program calls for the rehabilitation of 250 primary care centers. Likewise, the funds will be used to implement the Unified Care Strategy for Maternal and Neonatal Care (CUNA). Moreover, the program will help develop a Unified Electronic Health Record. The funds will support the Ministry of Public Health\u2019s digital transformation. The funding will also be allocated to infrastructure and equipment upgrades, storage and distribution capabilities and personnel training in provincial health departments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
