Igor Rodr\u00edguez Dur\u00e1n, director general of the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC) announced the upcoming installation of three new radars at airports in Santo Domingo, Santiago, and Puerto Plata.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement, Rodr\u00edguez Dur\u00e1n emphasized that the radars aim to “further enhance air navigation and meteorological coverage in our country.” The new equipment will be deployed to service Las Am\u00e9ricas International Airport (Santo Domingo), Cibao International Airport (Santiago), and General Gregorio Luper\u00f3n International Airport (Puerto Plata).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The director general of the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC) says the modern radar doppler to service the Gregorio Luperon International Airport of Puerto Plata is being installed in the Isabel de Torres Mountain, the same where the Botanical Gardens are located at the top. The modern system will benefit weather forecasting for the north coast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Igor Rodriguez Duran also stated that a modern control tower communications system is being installed at the Puerto Plata international airport. The airport\u2019s 35-year-old Air Navigation Radar is being replaced by state-of-the-art equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three systems call for an investment of more than RD$800 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rodr\u00edguez Dur\u00e1n said the Oviedo International Airport in Pedernales will be inaugurated next year to service the new hotels under construction in the area and the cruise ship terminal already operating in Cabo Rojo, Pedernales province. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
