Abinader said the initiative seeks to unify efforts among the government, private sector, and civil society to tackle the nation&#8217;s pressing challenges in traffic management and road safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The pact is quite advanced; some arrangements are being made to launch it in the coming weeks. I believe it should be launched in June,&#8221; President Abinader stated. He emphasized that the pact will be supported by extensive studies designed to improve both road safety and traffic flow, noting that &#8220;the two things go hand in hand.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A first &#8220;National Pact for Road Safety&#8221; was initially unveiled by the government in November 2024, following the issuance of Decree 656-24. This decree declared road safety to be of high national interest and set in motion the development of the &#8220;National Road Safety Plan 2025-2030.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At its initial announcement, the agreement saw the signing of representatives from various key organizations. Among those who subscribed to the pact were Milton Morrison (Intrant), Julio Brache (the Dominican Republic Association of Industries, AIRD), David Llibre (the National Hotel &amp; Tourism Association, Asonahores), Miguel Jim\u00e9nez (a civic movement for road safety, Movido RD), Antonio Marte (a major public transport corporation, Conatra), and \u00c1ngel Ovelio Ogando (the trucking organization, Fenatrado).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Listin Diario shares findings that National Transport and Transit Institute (Intrant) statistics indicate that only 10,827 motorcyclists have legal driver\u2019s licenses. The motorcycle is the most used mode of transportation with 3,587,028 units of the 6,194,052 million vehicles in circulation as of 31 December 2024, according to the Tax Agency (DGII).
