Socorro Castellanos, the well-known trailblazing communicator and broadcaster, passed away on 11 June 2025, after battling with lung cancer for many years. She was 84 years old. She is regarded as one of the most iconic voices in Dominican radio and television. Born in Santiago de los Caballeros in 1941, she began her career in the 1960s and became a pioneer in producing shows targeted towards women, families, and the home, breaking ground on both radio and television.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Castellanos produced and hosted landmark programs such as “Buenas Tardes a la Orden,” “Revista Eva,” “El Show del Mediod\u00eda,” and “Punto Final.” She also created children’s programs like “El jard\u00edn de Tintinola,” “Bobalina,” and “Don Crisp\u00edn,” and authored the cookbook “Sabor de mi tierra.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the first women to achieve prominence in a field largely dominated by men, Castellanos paved the way for future generations of female communicators. Her style, elegance, and professionalism left an indelible mark on generations of listeners and colleagues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the years, she had been recognized with numerous accolades, including the Dorado Award, Silver Microphone, Gold Microphone, and declared a Distinguished Citizen by the Santo Domingo City Hall, she was also honored by the Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel) in 2024 for her contributions to culture and communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her later years, Castellanos served as a Ministerial Counselor at the Dominican Embassy in Cuba, actively promoting Dominican culture and cuisine, and organizing the first Dominican Culture Week on the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
