After attending the 3rd UN Oceans Conference in Nice, France, President Luis Abinader traveled to Geneva, Switzerland to participate in activities of the World Trade Organization. President Abinader was accompanied by First Lady Raquel Arbaje.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Geneva he met with the director general of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. The Presidency reported that she commended the DR for its achievements in economic management and diversification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During a meeting with President Luis Abinader at the WTO headquarters, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala congratulated the President on the country’s progress in areas such as e-commerce and environmental preservation. She also highlighted the Dominican Republic’s success in macroeconomic management, which she described as essential for economic growth and sustainable development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding the Dominican Republic’s membership in the WTO, the director-general noted that the country has directly contributed to the organization’s work, benefiting not only itself but the entire membership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Abinader, for his part, emphasized the country’s commitment to the rules-based global trading system championed by the WTO. He also expressed his government’s dedication to multilateralism as a tool for tackling challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Accompanied by Jos\u00e9 R. S\u00e1nchez-Fung, the Dominican Republic’s Permanent Representative to the WTO and UNCTAD, President Abinader underscored his nation’s engagement with the international trading community during the meeting with the WTO chief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
