He stressed that blood should be considered a right, not a commodity, and should be freely accessible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We are going to do everything possible so that this precious liquid be covered by our social security system,&#8221; Atallah stated, highlighting the Ministry of Health&#8217;s efforts to amend the Dominican Social Security System (SDSS) Law No. 87-01.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the same event, held to commemorate World Blood Donor Day, the Ministry of Health and the National Hemocenter showcased considerable advancements in blood collection and distribution across the Dominican Republic. So far this year, over 5,000 blood components have been delivered, with nearly 3,000 pints collected in April and May 2025 alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Atallah underscored the life-saving importance of blood donation and the nation&#8217;s need for robust reserves to prepare for potential emergencies. He emphasized that blood donation should be an ongoing civic duty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Pedro Sing Ure\u00f1a, director of the National Hemocenter, outlined the organization&#8217;s commitment to developing a phased national blood service network. He noted that global statistics highlight the continuous need to promote blood donation, particularly among those who have not yet participated.
