The initiative aims to shape a unified and institutional response to the growing fallout from Haiti’s ongoing collapse.

Backed by representatives from the government, former Presidents, and the country’s social, labor, and business sectors, the CES established six working groups to address key issues: Migration, Bilateral Trade, Development of Border Communities, National Security, International Relations, and Labor Affairs.

The discussions are supported by a public consultation mechanism, open until 7 July 2025, through the platform OpinaRD (ces.gob.do/OpinaRD/) and via email at propuestasdialogo@ces.gob.do

Some 84 delegates—14 from each participating sector—are taking part in the discussions, joined by moderators and rapporteurs. Additional experts and key stakeholders may be invited to contribute as the dialogue progresses over the coming weeks.

Each table began its sessions with a foundational document and a guiding questionnaire to help structure consensus-building efforts.

In his opening remarks, CES president Rafael Toribio emphasized the Council’s commitment to leading the initiative, describing it as a step toward developing a long-term national policy to confront one of the country’s most pressing contemporary challenges.

CES secretary general Ana Selman outlined that the six thematic tables will work simultaneously and intensively over the next month. CES expects to issue a final report with recommendations to the Abinader administration by mid-August.

The process marks a rare moment of cross-sector collaboration, as the Dominican Republic seeks to navigate the complex and escalating impacts of instability in neighboring Haiti.

Read more in Spanish:
Noticias SIN
7 Dias

24 June 2025

On Monday, 23 June 2025, the Social and Economic Council (CES) has begun the meetings to discuss matters related to Haiti with representatives of different sectors in the Dominican Republic In a landmark session held at the Universidad del Caribe (Unicaribe), the Dominican Republic’s Economic and Social Council (CES) opened the national dialogue on the …

[337,3
