During his term, former Minister of Labor Miguel de Camps gave priority to hosting talks for the reform of the Labor Code. Labor, unions and government more or less reached an agreement on changes. This version was sent to Congress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The business people says the version will impact small business and will continue to stimulate people to stay informal. The business sector has called for reductions in the severance cost arguing this impacts local competitiveness and encourages keeping the present growing informality in hiring. The business sector had advocated setting a ceiling to severance payment accumulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, the business sector says that the version approved by the Senate is different with the one that had been harmonized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, senator Rafael Baron Duluc (La Altagracia-PRM), who presided over the Labor Bill committee, said that the bill integrates new flexibility in hiring, recognition of remote working, in work schedules and digitalization of labor processes, among other advances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rafael Abreu, nevertheless of the National Confederation of United Syndicates (CNUS) is happy with the changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bill is pending a second reading in the Senate from where it would move to the Chamber of Deputies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
