Former president of the Supreme Court of Justice Jorge Subero Isa, who is appointed to head the presidential commission for the La Fe neighborhood sports and residential development, shared some insights with the press on the ambitious redevelopment plans. At the center of the development are the plans for the reconstruction of the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium and the surrounding area. The project involves the rebuilding of the stadium to Major League Baseball standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Subero Isa explained to the press that the residential developments were added to make the project feasible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As reported in Hoy, Subero Isa said the project is about much more than baseball. His opening statements set the tone for the press conference:
\u201cThis is not just any commission.\u201d
\u201cThis is serious.\u201d
\u201cPresident Luis Abinader is highly enthusiastic about this project and what it means for the area.\u201d
\u201cThe government will not contribute a single peso in cash.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Subero Isa emphasized that the initiative goes far beyond constructing a new stadium. The vision includes a modern sports facility, as well as the development of a hotel, shopping plaza, and residential projects. However, he was quick to clarify that nothing is set in stone just yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Subero Isa, the appointed commission will take six months to study and present a full proposal. Only if the plan proves viable will it be submitted to President Abinader for approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When asked by the Hoy reporter why the project wasn\u2019t focused solely on the stadium, Subero Isa stated: \u201cHonestly, building only the stadium wouldn\u2019t be profitable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He explained that the surrounding commercial and residential developments would be handled by private business groups, to make the overall project financially viable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And he doubled down: \u201cI\u2019ll say it clearly. The government is not building the stadium \u2014 it will only provide the land.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe President wants to bring Major League games here. He wants fans to enjoy a modern stadium \u2014 and we are going to make that happen,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to Jorge Subero, other members of the commission were present, including Olivo Rodr\u00edguez, Ang\u00e9lica Noboa, Elka Schecker, and Edgar Torres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for future sports infrastructure \u2014 including the Carlos \u201cTeo\u201d Cruz boxing coliseum \u2014 Subero Isa advised patience: \u201cWe can\u2019t put the cart before the horse,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2025, President Luis Abinader named the former president of the Supreme Court of Justice to chair a special advisory commission in charge of determining the feasibility of constructing a modern baseball stadium on government-owned land in the Ensanche La Fe sector of the National District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other key public officials and private sector experts on the commission are the Minister of Sports, the general manager of the Development and Export Bank (Bandex), the executive director of the National Baseball Commissioner\u2019s Office, and legal specialists Ang\u00e9lica Noboa Pag\u00e1n, Elka Shecker Mendoza, Olivo Rodr\u00edguez Huertas. Edgar Torres Reynoso will serve as executive director.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
