The Transportation Cabinet of the Abinader Administration will launch the fourth phase of its left-turn restriction program this Sunday, 1 September 2025, targeting key intersections along John F. Kennedy and 27 de Febrero avenues. The traffic changes are part of the \u201cRD Se Mueve\u201d traffic management strategy aimed at easing congestion and improving road safety in the National District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ongoing initiative, which began with interventions at 13 major intersections in previous phases, has already cut travel times by more than 30% on avenues such as Lope de Vega, Tiradentes, Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill, and M\u00e1ximo G\u00f3mez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this new phase, traffic flow will be reorganized at the intersection of M\u00e1ximo G\u00f3mez and John F. Kennedy, which will shift from a four-phase to a three-phase traffic signal operation. As a result, left turns from John F. Kennedy Avenue heading south onto M\u00e1ximo G\u00f3mez (east-to-south) and from John F. Kennedy heading north onto M\u00e1ximo G\u00f3mez (west-to-north) will be prohibited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To accommodate these changes, drivers traveling east on John F. Kennedy who wish to head south on M\u00e1ximo G\u00f3mez can instead turn onto Avenida San Mart\u00edn and then left onto M\u00e1ximo G\u00f3mez. Alternatively, they can use Paseo de los Aviadores to reach San Mart\u00edn and continue south.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For drivers heading west on John F. Kennedy wanting to go north on M\u00e1ximo G\u00f3mez, the suggested route is to continue east, turn right on Paseo de los Ferreteros, then proceed via Calle Mayor Valverde to access M\u00e1ximo G\u00f3mez heading north.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials said a two-week public awareness campaign has preceded the enforcement of the new restrictions, which are already being monitored at intersections on Lope de Vega, Tiradentes, Winston Churchill, Abraham Lincoln, and M\u00e1ximo G\u00f3mez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Transportation Cabinet emphasized that the new traffic patterns will be available on navigation apps like Waze and reaffirmed that the rollout is part of a gradual, carefully planned effort to modernize urban mobility, improve safety, and help residents adapt to the changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
