Eduardo (Yayo) Sanz Lovat\u00f3n, director general of the Customs Agency, said on Tuesday, 26 August 2025 that the first flight of Amazon international cargo to its distribution center in Santo Domingo will arrive on 2 September 2025. He says the arrival of the flight will mark an important step towards the integration of the country to global online commerce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Dominican Republic is now the main logistics hub in the Caribbean,\u201d said Sanz Lovaton in making the announcement during a TV morning talk program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the country has always had the advantage of geographic location. And for decades there has been economic stability, even in times of global slowdowns. What has made the difference, he highlighted, is the modernization of Customs procedures. From day one, the Abinader administration set its sight on pushing the country to become a major global logistics hub. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sanz Lovat\u00f3n expects more investments of international corporations that are moving part of their activities to the ports of Caucedo and Haina in Santo Domingo, attracted by the efficient Customs processes and technology security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the interview on the morning show \u201cDespierta RD\u201d for Telemicro Channel 5, Sanz Lovaton said the Amazon operations are a major boost to the Dominican Republic’s growing logistics sector. The Amazon cargo flight on 2 September marks the tech giant\u2019s official entry into the nation with plans to establish a distribution center serving Latin America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move positions the Dominican Republic as a key logistics hub in the region and underscores Amazon\u2019s confidence in the country\u2019s infrastructure and regulatory improvements. This new chapter strengthens its ability to compete with traditional shipping and commerce hubs like Miami and Panama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen we arrived at Customs, only 40% of cargo was being scanned. Today, 96% of everything that enters or exits the country is screened under US and European standards. This level of transparency builds trust and attracts investment,\u201d the official said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, established logistics hubs operate out of the ports of Caucedo and Haina, providing warehousing and distribution services for a range of global companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
