President Luis Abinader and President Irfaan Ali of Guyana were the two heads of government that accepted invitations to speak at the 2025 Concordia Summit, an event parallel to the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Concordia Annual Summit is described as an event that convenes the world\u2019s most prominent business, government, and nonprofit leaders to foster dialogue and enable effective partnerships for positive social impact. This global affairs forum takes place in New York City and examines the world\u2019s most pressing challenges to identify avenues for collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Presidency reported that the conversation with Abinader focused on the themes of democracy, security, and geopolitical risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the high-level conversation moderated by Nicholas Logothetis, co-founder and chairman of the Concordia Leadership Council, President Abinader highlighted the Dominican Republic\u2019s progress in strengthening democratic institutions, reducing poverty, and attracting foreign investment in key sectors such as tourism, free trade zones, medical devices, and cigars. These efforts, he emphasized, have helped position the country among the fastest-growing economies in Latin America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Dominican Republic\u2019s greatest achievement is that we have not only achieved economic growth, but also social justice\u2014reducing poverty and ensuring strong, independent democratic institutions. That balance is what has given us stability and social peace,\u201d Abinader said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The President also addressed the escalating crisis in neighboring Haiti, urging the international community to take decisive action against the violent armed groups destabilizing the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is not about negotiation\u2014it\u2019s about confronting and defeating these groups with the strength of the international community, so that the Haitian people can be freed and begin a path toward development,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nicholas Logothetis praised the Dominican Republic\u2019s democratic model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Dominican Republic\u2019s leadership on democracy and security offers a valuable lesson for Latin America. Its approach to political dialogue and openness to the world is a model for the region,\u201d Logothetis said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Presidency reported that President Abinader was accompanied by First Lady Raquel Arbaje; Jes\u00fas \u201cChu\u201d V\u00e1squez, Consul General in New York; Mar\u00eda Isabel Castillo B\u00e1ez, Dominican Ambassador to the United States; Alberto Caminero, director of the Presidential Press Office (DPP); F\u00e9lix Reyna, director of the Government Strategy and Communication Agency (DIECOM); and Abel Guzm\u00e1n Then, deputy director of DIECOM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
