The Central Electoral Board (JCE) has formalized a significant agreement with the Emdoc consortium to kickstart the nationwide renewal of the country’s national identity and electoral card, the C\u00e9dula de Identidad y Electoral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The contract, valued at RD$3.36 billion, covers the supply of necessary equipment, materials, and services to overhaul the foundational identity document, which is currently expired for nearly all Dominican citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The signing of this contract marks the official launch of the long-awaited renewal process. The JCE has announced a plan for citizens to renew their card during their birth month in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To expedite the delivery of new cards to an estimated 9,412,353 citizens and residents, the JCE will establish 347 centers both domestically and abroad. Furthermore, mobile units will operate 24 hours a day to ensure efficient processing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The contract was formally signed by JCE President Rom\u00e1n Andr\u00e9s J\u00e1quez Liranzo and, on behalf of the Emdoc consortium, by Franklin Geovanny Cipri\u00e1n and Bernardo Antonio P\u00e9rez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the participants in the consortium has also been the technology contractor for the issuing of the IDs in Haiti, facilitating the efforts to regularize the situation of hundreds of thousands of Haitians under scrutiny for irregularities in obtaining their Dominican IDs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
