The Ministry invested RD$34.45 million in the pier that is easily accessible from La Romana city<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tourism Minister David Collado cut the inaugural ribbon. He highlighted the pier is a key component of the city&#8217;s urban reorganization plan. The pier is expected to have an extraordinary and direct impact on local economic activity, particularly by revitalizing the maritime tourism sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new structure is designed to accommodate smaller vessels and catamarans, directly benefiting excursion services and maritime tourism in the area. It also serves as a new hub for boats offering trips to nearby Catalina Island. The facility is capable of mooring up to eight catamarans or 11 small fishing boats (yolas).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pier features a 30.92-meter-long by 3.00-meter-wide main structure, alongside a 32-meter-long passenger gangway equipped with railings and lighting, all constructed using treated American pine. The new boardwalk and boulevard (Malecon) is expected to become very popular for family recreation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister Collado highlighted that the pier was a long-standing demand from the community. &#8220;Works like this have an extraordinary direct impact on the economy and tourism of the area,&#8221; he stated, noting that the project will foster new commercial activities and expand the dynamism of local tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new pier complements a broader transformation of the Caleta coastline, which now features a new boardwalk (malec\u00f3n) and boulevard that have become popular areas for family recreation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To ensure long-term functionality, the project included the dredging of the beach area, which involved excavating 355 cubic meters of usable sand from a 60-meter-long by 30-meter-wide area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The construction was managed by MITUR&#8217;s Committee of Infrastructures in Tourist Zones (CEIZTUR).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Read more in Spanish:<br><a href=\"https:\/\/presidencia.gob.do\/noticias\/ministerio-de-turismo-entrega-muelle-en-caleta-la-romana-con-una-inversion-de-34455380-de\">Presidency <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>14 October 2025<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ministry of Tourism announced the inauguration of the La Caleta Pier in western La Romana.
