The Civil Aviation Board (JAC) of the Dominican Republic has authorized the Colombian ultra low-cost carrier, JetSMART Airlines, to operate new routes connecting Colombia and the Dominican Republic, a move expected to intensify competition and benefit travelers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the United States and Canada, the competitive fares already available for travel to Colombia and the Dominican Republic have turned Colombians into the third largest source market for Dominican tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The authorization was granted during the JAC’s ordinary session on 13 August 2025, via Resolution No. 172, in compliance with the Air Transport Agreement between the two nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JetSMART Airlines received approval for two key routes:
Medell\u00edn – Punta Cana – Medell\u00edn
Cali – Punta Cana \u2013 Cali<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The operations are cleared as of Friday, 5 December 2025. However, it is worth noting that the specific launch day for the Cali – Punta Cana -Cali route has also been cited as Sunday, 7 December 2025, which is consistent with the flight days for that route (Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, with the return on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays). The Medell\u00edn – Punta Cana – Medell\u00edn route is scheduled to operate on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline plans to utilize Airbus A320-271N aircraft, which have an average seating capacity of 186 passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JetSMART Airlines is part of the portfolio of Indigo Partners, a private investment fund globally recognized for its more than 20 years of successful experience in developing ultra low-cost (ULCC) airlines. Indigo Partners\u2019 impressive portfolio includes stakes in other prominent global low-cost carriers such as Wizz Air (Eastern Europe), Volaris (Mexico), Frontier Airlines (United States), and Cebu Pacific (Philippines). The launch of these new Dominican routes is a step in JetSMART\u2019s broader expansion strategy across Latin America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Colombia and DR frequency is served nonstop by Arajet, Avianca, Copa and Wingo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
