The Dominican Republic\u2019s National Police (Polic\u00eda Nacional) officially rolled out its new uniform design this Tuesday, 4 November 2025, an update the institution says is central to its ongoing “reform, modernization, and transformation” plan. The institution stressed that the change is not just aesthetic, but fundamentally structural.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The color choice is explained. 90% of police forces worldwide use the color blue. The blue color is a statement of being aligned with international police standards to change the citizen perception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new uniforms introduce a clear visual hierarchy and functional features:
Administrative officers: Personnel from second lieutenant up to general, engaged in administrative duties, will wear white shirts (both long and short sleeve).
Enlisted personnel: Those from private up to sergeant major will utilize navy blue shirts.
Street operations: Officers working in the field will wear a blue uniform featuring a “checkerboard” pattern strip (cinta de adamero) on the sides. The name “Polic\u00eda Nacional” will be printed in turquoise blue on the back. Crucially, this operational uniform will also incorporate body-worn cameras.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond the fabric: Structural change and training
The Police underscored that the new attire is a tangible sign of deeper institutional change. \u201cThe image of our institution is a fundamental component in this process of reform\u2026 It is not a cosmetic change, but a functional and operative change,\u201d the National Police has stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reform includes comprehensive new training methods at police academies in Gaspar Hern\u00e1ndez, Hatillo, and San Crist\u00f3bal. Officials highlighted that members are currently being taught the “basic tactical police system,” which includes training for the use of new technological and identification equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
