President Luis Abinader was in San Jose, California for two days (20-21 November 2025) to back private sector efforts to participate in the manufacturing chain for semiconductors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He attended the annual meeting of the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) in San Jose, California, the sector\u2019s most influential global event, where he asserted the Dominican Republic’s ambition to become a key player in the semiconductor supply chain, the Presidency reports. The 2025 SIA Awards Dinner on 20 November 2025, at the Signia by Hilton San Jose, celebrating semiconductor excellence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The President’s presence in California was described as part of a national strategy to embed the Dominican Republic into the global value chains of the semiconductor industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Luis Abinader took advantage of the event to pitch the Dominican Republic as an emerging hub for advanced manufacturing and logistics. He highlighted the country\u2019s macroeconomic stability, modern infrastructure and strategic geographic location, ideal for serving the North American market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This meeting allows us to showcase our capabilities and open new doors to attract investments that generate quality jobs and drive the transformation of our economy,” President Abinader stated following his participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The President emphasized that the country has already established a clear path forward, confirming, “The Dominican Republic already has a strategy for the promotion of the semiconductor industry based on Decree 324-24.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The President also held one-on-one meetings with semiconductor executives, noting that the establishment of just one company in the nation could potentially generate around US$700 million in economic activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister of Industry & Commerce, V\u00edctor \u201cIto\u201d Bison\u00f3, highlighted the extensive institutional development and international cooperation agenda the country has pursued to attract advanced technology industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The country already has a national strategy for the development of the semiconductor industry,” Minister Bison\u00f3 stated, adding that “the Dominican Republic is ready to build strategic relationships with global industry leaders and advance toward a competitive ecosystem for technological manufacturing.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before the annual meeting, President Abinader, accompanied by Minister Bison\u00f3 and a public-private delegation, including businessman Samuel Conde of Piisa Industrial Park, met with CEOs and senior executives from leading sector companies. These meetings were designed to further position the nation as a reliable and competitive destination for new technological investments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) is the leading trade association for the US semiconductor industry. It represents the sector\u2019s top companies and advocates for policies that strengthen innovation, competitiveness, and the security of global supply chains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dominican ambassador to the United States Maria Isabel Castillo was in California to accompany the Dominican delegation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
