The Dominican Republic\u2019s aviation sector reached a historic milestone in 2025, processing 19,676,193 inbound and outbound passengers, according to data released by the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The figures represent a significant year-over-year increase compared to 2024, which saw 19,078,752 travelers. This growth of 597,441 additional passengers underscores a sustained upward trend that is solidifying the nation’s position as a primary aerial connectivity hub in the Caribbean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Igor Rodr\u00edguez Dur\u00e1n, director general of IDAC, attributed the surge to the general continued growth within the tourism sector, strengthening of international routes and the opening of new destinations and the increased frequency of flights already operating here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flight operations also saw an uptick, with 217,620 recorded flights in 2025, surpassing the 212,023 operations logged the previous year. This data encompasses scheduled commercial flights as well as charter and cargo operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe positive behavior of the aeronautical sector is a clear sign of the confidence airlines and passengers have in our civil aviation system,\u201d Rodr\u00edguez Dur\u00e1n stated. He noted that this growth directly fuels the national economy, impacting employment, trade, and foreign investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the record-breaking numbers, some industry observers note that while air traffic is soaring, the pace of infrastructure development remains a critical area of focus to keep up with the rapid jump in demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rodr\u00edguez Dur\u00e1n anticipates that if current trends persist, 2026 could set even higher records for Dominican air transport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
