President Luis Abinader is convinced that the Dominican Republic is on a definitive path to doubling the size of its economy by 2036, citing institutional stability and a diversified growth model as the primary engines for this ambitious goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participating in the High-Level Presidential Panel “Latin America’s New Chapter: What\u2019s Next?” at the 2026 World Government Summit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Wednesday, 4 February, Abinader joined counterparts Santiago Pe\u00f1a of Paraguay and Daniel Noboa of Ecuador to discuss the region’s economic and political trajectory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his intervention, Abinader highlighted that the Dominican Republic has consolidated its position as one of the most dynamic economies in the Caribbean. He specifically emphasized a strategic roadmap aimed at 100% economic growth over the next decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have mapped out a clear roadmap toward 2036 with the objective of doubling our economy and continuing to raise the quality of life for our people,” Abinader told the forum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The President attributed the country\u2019s resilience to a move away from single-sector dependence, noting that tourism, free trade zones, agriculture, and logistics now grow in a complementary fashion. He also linked economic success to democratic health, stating that record-breaking Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is a direct result of “confidence in our institutions, political stability, and the predictability of our public policies.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the regional front, the panel saw a consensus on the need for international cooperation to tackle shared threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Santiago Pe\u00f1a (Paraguay) emphasized the role of “middle-power democracies,” referring to the trio on stage, in maintaining hemispheric stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Daniel Noboa (Ecuador) pointed to the Dominican Republic as a regional benchmark for its pragmatic approach to security and its success in the fight against transnational crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abinader echoed these sentiments, stressing that while the Dominican Republic remains committed to national sovereignty, “cooperation is indispensable” in an interconnected world to combat organized crime and drug trafficking effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The President is accompanied in Dubai by a high-level delegation, including the Ministers of Finance and Economy Magin Diaz, and Housing and Edifications Victor (Ito) Bisono, signaling the administration’s focus on international investment and global partnerships. Previously, Bisono had served as minister of Industry & Commerce in the Abinader cabinet since August 2020. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
