President Luis Abinader led the official opening to the general public of Line 2C of the Santo Domingo Metro, an initiative designed to enhance urban mobility and alleviate congestion on the Duarte Highway. The line spans 7.3 kilometers from the Mar\u00eda Montez station to the Pablo Ad\u00f3n Guzm\u00e1n station at the entrance of Los Alcarrizos, benefiting over one million residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Line 2C has five stops, a 6.5-kilometer marginal road parallel to the Duarte Highway, and a 940-meter tunnel. The official press release did not reveal the total cost of the project. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToday, Los Alcarrizos is definitively connected to the heart of the city,\u201d President Abinader declared. \u201cThis is not just an infrastructure project; it is a concrete response to a real need. It is a clear sign that when the State listens, plans, and perseveres, it can transform the lives of its people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Along its route, Line 2C will connect 14 communities in the densely populated areas of Santo Domingo Oeste. The Presidency highlights that the metro connection will reduce commute times on the highly congested Duarte Highway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThousands of Dominicans in this area have spent up to an hour and a half per trip to reach their jobs or study centers. With this line, the entire journey between stations can be completed in just 10 minutes, and the total savings during peak hours can reach up to two hours a day,\u201d the head of state added during the inauguration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, it is estimated that users will see a reduction of up to 60% in their transportation expenses. The system has the capacity to transport 15,000 passengers per hour per direction, totaling 150,000 passengers daily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jhael Isa, director of the Metro Office (OPRET) indicated that commuters will have access to the Integrated Transport System that connects skylift, metro and select bus rides. The city is now interconnected with a high-technology metro system of the highest quality, reaching the heart of its neighborhoods through integration with the Los Alcarrizos Cable Car. This cable car system, which opened in May 2023, serves as a vital feeder for the new metro line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Line 2C will have free transit use from 25 February to Easter Week. The special operating hours are as follows:
\u2022 Monday to Friday: 6am to 10am and 6pm to 10pm
\u2022 Saturdays: 6am to 10am and 12pm to 4pm
\u2022 Sundays and Holidays: 10am to 10pm<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The five new stations are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Pedro Mart\u00ednez: Duarte Highway at the corner of Los Beisbolistas Ave. (Manoguayabo).<\/li>
  2. Franklin Mieses Burgos: Duarte Highway at the corner of Monumental Ave.<\/li>
  3. 27 de Febrero: Located at Kilometer 13 near Prolongaci\u00f3n 27 de Febrero.<\/li>
  4. Freddy Gat\u00f3n Arce: Located at Kilometer 14 near the pedestrian bridge.<\/li>
  5. Pablo Ad\u00f3n Guzm\u00e1n: At the entrance of Los Alcarrizos, connecting with the Cable Car.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
