The announcement comes as the Dominican Republic cements its status as a premier hub for international sports tourism, following the event’s recent recognition as one of the Top 5 Ironman 70.3 races in Latin America by the Ironman Athlete’s Choice Awards.

The 2026 triathlon will once again utilize the private, high-end infrastructure of the Cap Cana resort, offering a course designed for both speed and scenic impact. The race serves as a qualifying event for the 2026 Ironman 70.3 World Championship, scheduled for 12–13 September 2026 in Nice, France.

Wilber Anderson, CEO of SBR Sports LLC and the event’s chief organizer, emphasized that Cap Cana’s combination of safety, logistical infrastructure, and natural aesthetics is what drew the Ironman brand back for a third year. According to Anderson, the event is a key vehicle for projecting the Dominican Republic to a global audience of high-net-worth athletes.

Jorge Subero Medina, executive president of Cap Cana, stated that the resort expects to host more than 1,000 competitors along with their families. Beyond the sporting merit, the economic footprint is significant; internal estimates from the 2025 edition suggested a local economic injection of approximately US$7 million.

A course built for performance
The race layout remains largely consistent with the high-performance standards established in previous years, focusing on the flat topography of the eastern coastline:
• The Swim (1.9 km / 1.2 miles): Athletes will tackle a single-loop course in the Atlantic Ocean, starting and finishing at the private coastline of Juanillo Beach.
• The Bike (90 km / 56 miles): The transition area is located just 200 meters from the swim exit. The one-loop cycling course is noted for being “flat and fast,” traversing the internal gardens and manicured avenues of Cap Cana before connecting to the Autovia del Este highway for a high-speed segment.
• The Run (21.1 km / 13.1 miles): The half-marathon concludes the event with a flat route through the community and the Marina Cap Cana, eventually crossing the finish line back at Juanillo Beach near the Dreams Resort.

Logistics and pre-race events
The weekend’s activities will begin with the Ironman Expo, which will be open on 15 and 16 May 2026 at the Dreams Resort & Spa.
