Greater Santo Domingo got a taste of tornado-like wind gusts on Monday afternoon, mostly hitting the southern part of the city. To the north, several regions were flooded with rivers damaging inner town connections with main roads. Reports are that the Camu and Veragua bridges over rivers in the north part of the country were impacted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The message is clear. More solid constructions are needed because the heavy rains will continue to impact the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Monday, 13 April 2026 in the afternoon, sudden yet short-lasting hurricane-style winds and rain grabbed everyone\u2019s attention. On the Malecon, a section of the Malecon Center fell from the intense winds, as reported in Diario Libre. Trees were toppled in the Colonial City. Weather forecaster Heriberto Fabian explained in Diario Libre that the wind gusts come with convective systems and are of short duration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

N Digital reports that the National Weather Institute (Indomet) is forecasting more rains for Tuesday and Wednesday as a trough after trough move across the national territory. Rains will be more frequent in the north, northeast and southeast, including Greater Santo Domingo, and the Central Mountain Range and eastern plains. That is, most of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The weather authorities report “active trough will continue to be present, affecting several provinces across the national territory, causing moderate to heavy showers with possible hail, thunderstorms, and wind gusts.” The authorities are warning people to stay away from rivers and gullies. A young child and young man drowned when dragged by gushing stream waters when crossing by horse in Villa Altagracia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
