Not much is new in Haiti. The ongoing violent control of gangs continues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was revealed that a Belgian Air Force A400M military transport aircraft was fired upon during a flight conducted as part of a United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission in Haiti. The incident once again highlights the security risks on Hispaniola island.

The military transport aircraft was carrying approximately 80 soldiers from Santo Domingo to Port-au-Prince and was found to have bullet marks on its tail once it landed in Port-au-Prince. It is assessed that the aircraft was targeted before landing, and no crew injuries were reported. The incident was confirmed by the Belgian Ministry of Defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to reports in the Belgian press, bullet marks were detected during a post-mission inspection on the aircraft, which flew from Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, to Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, on 19 April 2026. Two bullet holes were reported on the tail and engine sections of the aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft, belonging to the 15th Air Transport Wing, transported approximately the 80 Chadian soldiers to Port-au-Prince as part of the United Nations mission. The Chadian soldiers are replacing Kenyan soldiers. After the soldiers were disembarked, the aircraft safely returned to Santo Domingo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials assessed that the aircraft was targeted before its landing in Port-au-Prince. It was stated that despite the attack, the crew was unharmed and the flight was completed without incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Dominican Republic is scheduled to open its airspace again in May enabling flights from the airport in northern Haiti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
