Central Electoral Board (JCE) president Julio Cesar Castanos Guzman has expressed his regret at the way in which “the essence of the subsidized mobile kitchens (Comedores Economicos) has been distorted to favor the government’s candidates”. He said that even though Leonel Fernandez is the president of the PLD, he is also the President of all Dominicans and therefore should not appear to give a political stump speech when he is not a candidate. Castanos said the presence of the President should not be an excuse to use state resources for the campaign. <\/p>\n
Speaking to reporters from Hoy newspaper, Castanos Guzman referred to newspaper reports that said the mobile kitchens were used as a way of attracting voters at a campaign event led by President Fernandez in San Jose de Ocoa. Castanos said: “These eating facilities do such good work and are so necessary for the poor that they should never be used for political propaganda by any political party”. <\/p>\n
