The president of the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE) has called for transparency and open participation of society in the process of choosing 13 judges for the Supreme Court of Justice, Constitutional Court and Higher Electoral Court judges. President Leonel Fernandez has convened the National Council of the Magistracy to elect the judges as of 11 August. <\/p>\n
Lara Guerrero highlighted the importance of an independent judicial branch in a progressive and democratic society. The judges who are selected will be in their posts for the next 15 years at least, she said, as reported in Hoy. <\/p>\n
She said that incompetence, bias and corruption in the administration of justice have a high economic cost that affects all sectors of society and the business climate. <\/p>\n
She called for choosing judges who are known for their independence, commitment, integrity and credibility, and who have shown they have been able to distance themselves from other branches of government when taking decisions so as to be able to impartially implement the laws. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
