Dominican permanent representative to the United Nations Hector Virgilio Alcantara presented his credentials to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in a ceremony yesterday. Alcantara had previously served in the post between 1990 and 1993. He has also served as DR permanent representative to the OAS (2008-2011). Alcantara has also been ambassador and consul general of the DR to South Korea (1998-1999) and Japan (1993-1994), and, concurrently, as Ambassador to Canada (1993). Prior to his years in the foreign service, most of Alcantara’s professional career was in journalism where he worked as director of several Dominican newspapers n El Financiero (2003), El Expreso (2001), Hoy (1980-1988) and Ultima Hora (1970-1980).
