Dressed in yellow and sporting the symbolic yellow umbrellas, children and adults alike walked the 3kms from the state university to Independence Park, an hour and a half slow walk. Coalicion Educacion Digna, a civil society movement that is pressuring the government to reduce corruption to increase funding for education, organized the event. <\/p>\n<p> The group marched in front of the Ministry of Education and placed yellow banners on the gate in demand that the government comply with Law 66-97 that orders that 4% of the GDP or 16% of the National Budget should be allocated to education. Maria Teresa Cabrera, a former president of the Dominican Public School Teachers Association, spoke in representation of Coalicion Educacion Digna. <\/p>\n<p> She declared: &#8220;We are calling for the 4% because it is a legal and moral obligation of the state and our society, because we, every one one of us, has the right to a life with dignity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p> The Fernandez administration has allocated 2.5% of the GDP to education in the 2012 national Budget. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Enthusiastic crowds of thousands of people gathered on Sunday for a march for 4% of GDP for education.
