The Fernandez government has assigned RDR$108.9 million to security along the 14.6 kilometers of the first line of the Santo Domingo Metro. The Fernandez government allocated RD$31.5 million towards port security at 12 national ports. The reporter comments that the budgets are especially low considering the constant pressure to combat drug and arms trafficking. <\/p>\n
Acento reports that 75% of the budget of the Specialized Ground Border Security Corps (CESFRONT) goes on wages and meals for personnel, 15% for equipment and fuel and 10% for operations. Some 2,000 men are stationed along the north-south border with Haiti, and 70% earn less than RD$5,000 a month.
