The study, “An Assessment of the Impact of the DR-CAFTA on the Production Sector of the DR,” sponsored by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), through the Project for Implementing DR-CAFTA, focuses on the quantitative analysis of the impact of the agreement both with the United States and with Central America. <\/p>\n
The report revealed that the Dominican Republic sources 40% of the domestic demand for supplies and raw materials for national production from the United States. It points out that 78% of the trade deficit with the United States is made up of cooking oil, machinery, vehicles, cereals and plastics. Nonetheless, the DR has a significant commercial surplus when it comes to shoes, medical equipment, textile exports, sugar and tobacco. <\/p>\n
