On Wednesday night, February 8, a black SUV drove at high speed along the Avenida Circunvalacion Sur in Santiago, and one of its occupants threw a bag full of RD$2,000 bills out of the window. The bag split open when it hit the pavement and the money scattered everywhere. This resulted in a frantic competition to grab the money by the residents in the area, drivers and motorcyclists. The crowd snowballed as passers-by saw the money and there were some skirmishes as people tried to grab the money from those who had picked it up.<\/p>\n
