Joel Santos, an 18-year-old suspect in the murder last week of Victor Martinez, 21, of Jersey City was arrested at New York’s John F Kennedy Airport yesterday morning Sunday February 12, before he could board a plane to the Dominican Republic, Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said.<\/p>\n
Santos, who authorities say used a knife to attack Martinez, is charged with murder, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes and unlawful possession of a weapon.<\/p>\n
Martinez was stabbed multiple times Wednesday at Prospect Street and Palisade Avenue around 3:30pm in what prosecutors say was an attack related to friction between rival gangs.<\/p>\n
Officials said Santos, who is a citizen of the Dominican Republic, was considered a flight risk and prosecutors had notified the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police that he might try to flee the country.<\/p>\n
