President Leonel Fernandez has decreed a day of mourning today Tuesday, 6 March in memory of the great television personality and sometimes politician, Rafael Corporan de los Santos. Corporan passed away yesterday morning just a day or so after being honored by Color Vision and a network of other television stations for his incredible career, both in television and in his charitable efforts. The presidential decree is Number 97-12, and it cites his “tireless work on radio and television… helping thousands of poor Dominican families.” His favorite charity, the Children’s City, was left unfinished. <\/p>\n
While the Dominican intelligentsia might have made fun of some of his sayings on television, his message surely reached the people. Today’s caricature by Harold Priego in Diario Libre pays homage to his presence in our lives. “Sprite, the soda that tastes most like 7 Up but is not 7Up!” was one of his more famous lines.<\/p>\n
