He said 70% of power generated in the Dominican Republic is produced by non fossil fuels. Only 30% of power generation by major plants is fired by the costly fuel oil. Marranzini said that by 2016, the plan is to reduced fuel oil use to only 5% of power generation. Marranzini said yesterday that most power in the DR is generated by water, natural gas, coal or wind power.<\/p>\n
Moreover, he is also satisfied with efforts to reduce electricity fraud and theft. This has dropped by approximately 13% in the areas that have 24-hour service, he said. Marranzini told El Nuevo Diario reporters that they never had expected to reduce the rate of evasion to just 27%. He stated: “We are tremendously satisfied with the answers that the communities are providing, because the communities realize that the only way to obtain 24-hour service is by paying.” He said that last year (2011) closed with over 790,000 24-hour clients, and the projection for this year is to add another 400,000 and close 2012 with around 1.2 million customers on 24-hour circuits. Marranzini said that he was opposed to a single, set rate for customers in poor barrios like Cristo Rey in the National District, because this provides no incentive to save energy. In reality, many “poor households” have installed energy-consuming appliances, such as air conditioning. In the sectors with fixed rates, businesses have been installed to take advantage of the plan. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
The executive vice president of the Public Electricity Corporation (CDEEE), Celso Marranzini is pleased with the success had at reverting to less costly sources for power generation.
