The Hamilton Campaigns polling company reveals that its latest poll shows Danilo Medina pulling ahead with 51% of the electoral preference to 44% of PRD candidate, former President Hipolito Mejia, as reported in Listin Diario. The polls award 1% to Guillermo Moreno, 1% to Eduardo Estrella and 4% undecided. David A. Beattie, president of Hamilton, was in Santo Domingo to report on the 11-15 April poll. He says 56% of voters say it is unlikely a second round will be necessary. To win in a first round, the candidate needs 50%+1 of the vote. In the same poll, President Leonel Fernandez obtained a 50% approval rate, compared to a 49% who disapprove of his performance. 55% of voters believe that the candidacy of First Lady Margarita Cedeno has strengthened the Medina candidacy.
