The government of the Bahamas has plans to run an aggressive campaign in the Dominican Republic in a bid to discourage poaching in their waters. <\/p>\n
A ministerial delegation including Foreign Affairs and Immigration Minister Fred Mitchell, Bernard Nottage, National Security Minister and Financial Services Minister Ryan Pinder and Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources V Alfred Gray will meet Dominican ministers next week to discuss a range of issues including the problem of Dominicans fishing in their waters and what resolutions they can find to eliminate or reduce it.<\/p>\n
According to Gray, the Bahamian government’s plan is to have a public relations campaign in the Dominican Republic about the issue, and they will be asking for the support of the Dominican government.<\/p>\n
The Bahamas has already taken measures to curb poaching by foreign fishermen in Bahamian waters by banning permits to non-Bahamian fishermen and has pledged to put more resources into the Royal Bahamas Defense Force to allow officers to better patrol Bahamian waters.<\/p>\n
