The Education Minister, Josefina Pimentel, says that her Ministry is considering a proposal from the Dominican Teachers Association (ADP) asking for a salary increase to RD$30,000 per month for each class they teach, as reported in Hoy.<\/p>\n
At a recent press conference, ADP president Eduardo Hidalgo demanded a reply to their request within a week.<\/p>\n
Since December, a commission of representatives of the Ministry of Education and teachers from the ADP have been holding negotiations about the issue of teachers’ pay and as well as an increase in pay, they are also asking for other incentives to improve the quality of teachers’ lives. <\/p>\n
Hidalgo said that Pimentel promised to give them a proposal on salaries on 10 December last year, however the 2013 education budget does not appear to include a pay rise for teachers and with the Ministry of Education now receiving 4% of the GDP they say that there should be enough money to give teachers a monthly salary of RD$30,000.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
