The Dominican Republic will attend two hearings today, Tuesday 12 March, convened by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), headquartered in Washington, with the objective of hearing lawsuits filed by two groups of organizations on the situation of the citizens’ rights to safety in the country and the right to nationality of Dominicans of Haitian origin.<\/p>\n
From 3:15pm until 4:15pm there will be a hearing on “the situation of the right to citizen safety in the Dominican Republic” and the position with regard to 33 organizations, including the National Human Rights Commission, the Women and Health Collective, Amnesty International, the Dominican-Haitian Women’s Movement (MUDHA), the Alternative Citizens Forum and the “Toy Jarto” Movement. During the second hearing, set for 4:30pm until 5:30pm, the commission will hear about “the right to nationality for Dominicans of Haitian origin.” The commission will hear the arguments of 30 entities, most of which are the same as in the first hearing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
