The Catholic Church says it will go to the Constitutional Court to appeal the decision taken yesterday, Monday 20 May by Judge Eunice Minaya Perez who rejected a legal protection writ submitted by the church against a sex education campaign by Profamilia. The judge said the campaign does not violate fundamental rights. The full ruling will be read next Monday, 27 May at 9am. <\/p>\n
The judge said that none of the four Profamilia campaign advertisements alters morality, or incites people to engage in sex or disobedience.<\/p>\n
The court disclosed that it believed that it would be wrong to ban the campaign, given that the non-governmental organization is within its right to publish the advertisements based on every person’s right to freedom of expression, without prior censorship, taking care to protect young people and the family, following the law and public order. <\/p>\n
On the question of the use of minors in the campaign, the judge says it falls under parental responsibility for their children’s education. <\/p>\n
“It would be contradictory if the Dominican state encouraged or attempted to implement plans to eradicate social problems through laws while condemning a person in our courts for similar practices,” said the court. <\/p>\n
