Armed Forces Minister Admiral Sigfrido Pared Perez has briefed President Medina on the details of the case, which has received international press coverage. Pared Perez said that a man named Carlos Perez, a US citizen of Dominican origin, visited the country for the first time in 2011, in an attempt to obtain Dominican citizenship. The minister said that Perez was a friend of Takieddine, and invented a fake “general” in order to give more credibility to his offer. When the French authorities arrested the man, they found pictures of the “diplomatic passport” on his iPad. However, the picture showed a black passport booklet that had not been used for over ten years.<\/p>\n
