This is the third film the newly created Film Commission has chosen to compete in the Oscars. The first film was &#8220;Love Child&#8221; directed by Leticia Tonos (2012). The second was &#8220;Check Mate&#8221;, directed by Jose Maria Cabral (2013). The DR has also participated &#8220;One Way Ticket&#8221; by Agilberto Menendez in 1989 and Nueba Yol by Angel Muniz in 1996. <\/p>\n<p> The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film is one of the Academy Awards of Merit, or Oscars, handed out annually by the US-based Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). It is given to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States in a language that is not English. Unlike other Academy Awards, the Best Foreign Language Film Award is not presented to a specific individual.
