A Dominican missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in Colombia was shot and killed by a stray bullet on Saturday, 31 August, church officials have confirmed. <\/p>\n
Jose Daniel Encarnacion Montero, 20, was in his apartment in Cali with three other Mormon missionaries n a Bolivian, an American and an Ecuadorian, when he was hit by a stray bullet, according to LDS Church spokeswoman Ruth Todd. The other missionaries were unharmed and the incident is currently being investigated by local police.<\/p>\n
According to press reports in Colombia, after initially saying that his death was due to a stray bullet, the police are now also investigating the possibility of murder.<\/p>\n
“Elder Encarnacion’s passing will be deeply felt in the mission and by all who knew him,” Todd said in a statement.<\/p>\n
His body will be repatriated to the Dominican Republic today, Tuesday 3 or tomorrow, Wednesday 4 September.<\/p>\n
