Minister of Public Works Miguel Vargas said that the new bridge that is parallel to the Juan Pablo Duarte Bridge and is under construction over the Ozama River will be ready in April 2001. He said that the repairs of the old Juan Pablo Duarte Bridge will conclude in 45 days, and the latter should be in operation before December of this year. Vargas said that by December the government will have concluded the Autovía del Este, the Avenida Circunvalación located at the entrance of San Pedro de Macorís, and the Las Americas tunnel, boulevard, and pedestrian overpasses. Driving into and out of Santo Domingo from the East should be easy as of December, when most of these works will be finished.
