El Caribe was the only newspaper to publish today photographs of President Hipólito Mejía dancing merengue with the Queen of Spain. As would be expected, President Hipólito Mejía could not resist and invited Queen Sofia to dance at the end of the gala dinner offered by President Mejia at the National Palace. King Juan Carlos corresponded, inviting First Lady Rosa de Mejía to dance. Later the foursome changed partners, with the King and Queen of Spain demonstrating their dancing abilities. The press did not have access to the dinner, and El Caribe said it obtained the photographs from the official photographer of the event, who released these supposedly with the permission of the monarchs.
